Development and investigation of an innovative, light-weight, two-way spanning timber-concrete composite slab

Timber-concrete composite (TCC) slabs play an essential role in modern timber construction. Consisting of a member the tension zone, concrete layer compression zone and shear connection between two parts, TCC feature number advantages that make them ideally suitable for use both office residential buildings. However, currently used slab systems carry loads only one direction. In frame large research project cooperation with industry, innovative, light-weight, two-way spanning timber-concrete using beech laminated veneer lumber steel tubes as connectors was developed. This paper presents main results project. First, structural behaviour is characterised discussed based on extensive experimental analytical analysis. Second, load-bearing investigated uniaxial bending tests presented. The showed remarkably ductile global due to failure mode connectors. A developed model can describe observed tested members accurately. Finally, biaxial large-scale experiment allowed perform static dynamic same specimen different support conditions. substantial increase stiffness fundamental frequency versus conditions accurately modelled, showing great potential novel slab.
